Ekiro

Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 30, 2026

The short version: The Ekiro app does not collect your personal data. Your workouts and health data stay on your devices — no accounts, no ads, no tracking. To improve the app, it sends anonymous usage statistics without your name, email, location, health or workout data (see “Anonymous usage statistics” below); you can turn them off in Settings. The ekiro.run website uses only privacy-friendly, cookieless visitor analytics (see “Website” below).

What data the app works with

Ekiro is an interval run/walk timer for iPhone and Apple Watch. To do its job it works with the following data — all of it locally, on your devices only:

HealthKit

Ekiro uses Apple HealthKit to read your heart rate during workouts and to save completed workouts to Apple Health. With your permission, Ekiro also reads your resting heart rate and cardio fitness from the Health app for the Progress charts. Health data:

You control HealthKit permissions in the Health app and can revoke them at any time.

Syncing between your devices

Workouts you build on iPhone are sent to your paired Apple Watch using Apple's WatchConnectivity — a direct connection between your own devices. Nothing passes through our servers, because we don't have any.

Location

During a workout on iPhone, Ekiro keeps a location session active — iOS requires this so the lock-screen widget (Live Activity) can update while the app is in the background. Coordinates are not stored, not shown to anyone, and never leave your device. The session ends with the workout. You can decline location access — everything keeps working except the lock-screen widget updates.

The same session is used to measure your workout’s distance and pace: Ekiro adds up the meters covered and keeps only the distance, while coordinates are discarded right away. Without location access, iPhone cannot measure distance and pace.

Anonymous usage statistics

To understand which features are used, where people get stuck and how stable the app is, the iPhone app sends anonymous usage statistics through TelemetryDeck, an analytics service based in the EU (servers in the Netherlands and Germany).

What we don't do

Website (ekiro.run)

The ekiro.run website uses privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics (Cloudflare Web Analytics): it counts aggregate page views without cookies, without tracking individual visitors, and without collecting personal data. There are no advertising or third-party trackers. This applies to the website; the app’s anonymous usage statistics are described above.

Changes to this policy

If the app ever changes how it handles data, this page will be updated first, and the effective date above will change.
